GREENWOOD, Ind. (WTHR) – A video is going viral online showing a student apparently mocking a player on an opposing basketball team by pretending to have a seizure.

It happened as Cathedral was playing at Center Grove Friday night.

James Franklin Jr. was shooting a free throw when he says people in the crowd started yelling “have another seizure for me.” Shortly after a student in the student section feel on the ground, apparently mimicking a seizure.

Franklin has battled epilepsy through his childhood.

“It really hurts. Last night I was taking it hard and I was up all night and then this morning I cried a little bit,” said Franklin.

Eyewitness News is not identifying the Center Grove student involved in the incident.

“It’s just taking it too far and I think somebody needs to do something about it,” said Franklin.

Saturday afternoon, Center Grove High School released a statement:

Members of the administrative team and athletic department at CGHS are aware of the concerns raised about student behavior at the Cathedral basketball game Friday night. We are working collaboratively with the administrative staff and athletic department at Cathedral to address these issues. Our goal is to always create an environment where sportsmanship and quality competition can thrive. We do not condone any behavior intended to mock, disparage or humiliate any player or student.

Franklin had previous incidents with seizures during basketball games.

Last year Eyewitness News talked with him about returning to basketball following surgery to remove a portion of his brain.

His mother says it appears students did research before mocking her son.

“They had every intention. They knew what they researched, they knew what they found,” said Tamieka Franklin.
