CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) - Carmel Clay Schools Superintendent Dr. Nicholas Wahl has resigned, effective immediately.

Wahl had been placed on paid administrative leave in October as the district reviewed its leadership. In a release Friday evening, the school board said they "concluded that a change in leadership is in the best interest of the school corporation."

The release said the decision to sever their relationship with Wahl was a mutual agreement.

Wahl is under contract with the district through June 2022. The parties reached a resignation agreement which will pay Wahl his contract salary and partial benefits through June of this year.

"He will not receive the deferred portion of the incentive compensation that was awarded for prior contract years nor will there be an incentive compensation award for the 2017-18 school year," the board said in the release.

The board says it will begin a search for Wahl's replacement immediately, with a goal of finding a new superintendent by July 1.
