Butler hosts first of 4 central Indiana Polar Plunge events for Special Olympics

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - If you are brave enough to bear the cold and jump into some icy water, we have a great event for you.

It's the end of February, and it's no surprise that it's cold outside.

But that's not stopping more than 350 people from jumping into an outdoor pool at Butler University's Health and Recreation Complex.


Feb. 22 marks the first of Indianapolis' four Polar Plunges.

The event is raising money for Special Olympics Indiana and they hope the event will raise at least $50,000 again this year.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. for the Butler Polar Plunge.

Upcoming Polar Plunges are scheduled for:

  • Greenwood Polar Plunge
    Saturday, Feb. 29 at Dye’s Walk Country Club
    Registration: 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
    Plunge: 10:30 a.m.
  • High School Polar Plunge
    Friday, March 6 at Eagle Creek Park
    More than 20 local high schools participating
    Register through your school
  • Indianapolis Polar Plunge
    Saturday, March 7 at Eagle Creek Park
    Registration: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
    Plunge: 9 a.m. (Early Bird) and 11 a.m.
