Butler Blue III ready to get back in the game at Crossroads Classic

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The Butler Bulldogs are getting their "secret weapon" back just in time for the Crossroads Classic.

Butler Blue III will be back on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to repair an ACL tear in October. The Bulldogs face the Indiana Hoosiers at 5 p.m. Saturday (December 17) at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Blue's handler, Michael Kaltenmark, said the Butler mascot underwent some intense therapy as part of his rehabilitation.

"He did about 10 sessions of physical therapy at MedVet Indianapolis where he had the surgery. Stick him in an underwater treadmill, involves a lot of peanut butter," Kaltenmark said. "He started out doing just a couple minutes of walking, I think the longest he did was close to 30 minutes of walking in there."

He also worked out with small hurdles and underwent cold laser therapy to get back into game shape.

Purdue faces Notre Dame at 2 p.m. in the first game of the Crossroads Classic.
