Bus driver honored for rescuing toddler found wandering on street

Irinia Ivic holds the child she rescued from the cold.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTHR) - A bus driver is being honored for rescuing a baby who was walking alone on a Milwaukee overpass, wearing only a diaper and a onesie in freezing temperatures.

Irena Ivec said when she spotted the child December 22, she immediately stopped the bus and ran to get the little boy, who was crying. She took him back to her bus to keep him warm while a passenger took the coat off her back to use as a blanket.

Eventually, the baby fell asleep in her arms.

Officers said the child was intentionally left outside by his mother. The boy has since been reunited with his father.
