BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WTHR) - Police officers in Brownsburg made sure the niece of a fallen officer got to her first day of kindergarten safely last week.

Kristi Pickett's daughter Hannah asked if an officer was available to walk with her to school last Thursday, since her mother had to leave before school started.

Brownsburg's police chief told Kristi he would be honored for his department to help and two officers escorted Hannah to school.

"She was so excited!" Kristi wrote on Facebook.

Kristi's brother, Boone County Sheriff's Deputy Jacob Pickett, was shot and killed in the line of duty on March 2. She said the day was very emotional for her family.

"I'm so grateful that these amazing officers took time out of their busy days to come make this little girl's day a little brighter," she wrote.
