NASHVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) - Brown County State Park has closed due to recent heavy rains.

Late Wednesday afternoon, DNR announced the park would be closed through at least Sunday evening.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said the rainfall over the past several days has caused a lack of usable water in the park. The park and the Abe Martin Lodge will be closed to the public through the weekend.

Staff and park members will contact guests who have reservations through Thursday evening and at the lodge with cancellation notices.

The park draws water from Ogle Lake on the property. That water is treated at the park's in-house facility. That system has been slowed by soil brought into the facility by heavy rains.

The decision to stay closed will be a day-by-day decision as more heavy rainfall is predicted this week.

Indiana DNR will provide updates on the closure on its website.
