INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard will move back into July.

A few years back it had been moved from the last weekend in July to the last race of the season in September.

The move was made as fans had been complaining about not enjoying the race during the hot July weather. Track attendance for the race had been slipping.

Now NASCAR has announced the Brickyard 400 will move to the weekend of July 4 for 2020.

"There's no better venue to throw a massive party for our nation's birthday than the Racing Capital of the World," IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. "Fourth of July weekend is a celebration of patriotism and getting outside in the summer with family and friends, and a Big Machine concert and NASCAR racing at the Speedway combine those two traditions, making for a special Independence Weekend celebration!"

This year's race will be held on Sunday, September 8.
