Boy rescued from burning Indiana house; 3 officers hurt

ANGLOA, Ind. (AP) — An official says three police officers were hurt while trying to rescue a 3-year-old boy from a burning house in northeastern Indiana.

Angola Fire Department spokesman TR Hagerty tells WANE-TV that firefighters found the boy in a bedroom early Thursday. The boy was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital, but Hagerty didn't immediately know the boy's condition.

Emergency crews rushed to the house in rural Steuben County about 12:30 a.m. for the reported fire with a child trapped inside. Hagerty says the one-story house had heavy smoke throughout when firefighters arrived and that the bedroom where the boy was found was filled with smoke,

Hagerty says the police officers were taken to an Angola hospital but didn't know the severity of their injuries.
