Bloomington police investigating overnight shooting that injured 2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WTHR) – The Bloomington Police Department is investigating an overnight shooting.

Police say it happened near the 400 block of S Grant Street just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, an officer with the Bloomington Police Department was patrolling the area of S Grant Street and E Smith Avenue when the officer heard numerous gunshots in the area.

The officer saw several hundred people fleeing from a nearby party and continuted to hear more gunshots.

The officer found a 23-year-old man who had been shot. As other officers arrived to the area, an 18-year-old female was also found with two gunshot wounds.

Bloomington police say there was more than one shooter.

One of the suspects was identified at the scene and an officer saw the suspect running with a handgun and chased him on foot. The suspect was apprehended.

Gabriel A Alsman, 20, was arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement, Level 6 Felony; Criminal Recklessness with a Firearm, Level 6 Felony; Theft, Level 6 Felony; Possession of Marijuana, “B” Misdemeanor; and Illegal Consumption, “C” Misdemeanor.

The firearm he possessed had previously been reported as stolen.

Several vehicles and buildings were damaged as a result of the shooting.

Both victims were transported to IU Health Hospital in "stable condition."
