Beer before wine and you're fine? Study shows it doesn't matter

WITTEN, Germany (WTHR) — A recent study in Germany explored an age-old question: Does drinking different types of alcohol in a specific order make for a worse hangover?

The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, showed it doesn't really matter.

Ninety volunteers at Witten/Herdecke University in Germany took part in the study. Researchers had participants drink a specific amount of alcohol in a specific order and then analyzed their well-being afterward.

Results showed neither type of alcohol, nor the order in which volunteers drank them, if they had both, had any significant effect on hangover intensity.

Overall, women tended to have worse hangover symptoms than men, and participants who drank only wine or only beer had worse hangovers than those who drank both.

Still, doctors say the true key is always drinking in moderation.
