HOUSTON (KPRC/NBC) - Bananas are known for their nutritional benefits, including fiber, potassium, B6 and Vitamin C.

But now, some scientists believe the banana peel can also help with your beauty regimen.

Researchers discovered the peels react with tarnish on silver, making it disappear. According to many blogs, they can have the same effect on your teeth. The claims say if you rub the inside of the peel on your teeth for two minutes, then brush like normal, you'll have whiter teeth.

But according to toothpaste website, there is not enough scientific data to prove that will work.

Another claim states the inside of the peel held against your skin for 10 minutes a few times a day will ward off acne and may eliminate scars.

Enzymes in the peel may also help pull a splinter to the surface of the skin for easy removal, according to Prevention. Just tape a piece of peel over the splinter for about 30 minutes.

And don't forget the internal benefits of bananas. Doctors encourage patients with heart disease to eat bananas since a low sodium and high potassium diet can help lower blood pressure. That is the same reason why some people claim bananas relieve their headaches.
