Angie's List: The benefits of new siding

Indianapolis - If your house is due for a painting job this summer, you may want to spend a few more dollars and change the siding.

This week we're looking at the top five improvements you can make to your home to get the best return for your money.

Number four on the list is siding.

Not only can new siding make your home look better, it can also help protect your family from the elements and you can expect to get an 80-percent return on your investment.

That's because the covering on the outside of your home is the first line of defense against rain, snow and wind.

You can't afford to let it deteriorate.

It also makes your house look better and that this is the first thing that people will see when they look at your house.

"One of the biggest things for home values, a lot of time, is curb appeal when you are selling your house. So, siding is a great way to really give your house a fresh new look and can potentially save you money down the road because there is not as much maintenance, especially if you have a house that is painted," said Angie Hicks, Angie's List.

Very few people can put siding on themselves. So, you almost certainly have to use a siding company to do the work.

Another advantage to hiring a professional company is that the work will probably come with warranty.
