Anderson student arrested at school for having weapons in his vehicle

ANDERSON — An Anderson student was arrested Thursday for having a weapons in his vehicle.

Our newsgathering partner The Herald Bulletin reported that Mason Allan Shetterly, 18, was arrested and charged with possession of knife on school property or on a school bus and carrying a handgun without a license.

"Our students did the right thing by notifying staff that we had a possible situation," said Superintendent Timothy Smith in the message he sent to parents and guardians. "I want to thank our students for doing the right thing and I want to thank our officers for ensuring the safety of our students by acting promptly to the possible threat," said Smith in the message.

Officers were immediately called once the school was made aware of the situation.
