Amber Alert canceled for Michigan children believed to be in Indiana


STURGIS, Mich. (WTHR) — UPDATE: The Amber Alert for three children has been canceled.

All three children were found safe in Michigan, and the father is in custody.


ORIGINAL STORY: The Sturgis Police Department believe 37-year-old Fernando Mendoza Cruz abducted his three children. Matteo Nieves, 4, Chelsey Lopez, 5, and Aldo Cruz, 2, are believed to be traveling with their father in a 2009 black Chevy Traverse with Michigan plate DWH9204.

According to WOOD-TV, Cruz is considered to be armed and dangerous. Authorities said he assaulted his girlfriend before driving away with the children. He reportedly said he was going to harm himself and the kids.

Their last known location was near Fremont, Indiana.

Matteo was last wearing red shorts and a blue T-shirt. Chelsey was last weaing a pink T-shirt and blue pajama pants. Aldo was last wearing a blue T-shirt with a diaper.

Anyone with information on the location of the children and their father should call 911 or the Sturgis Police Department at 269-651-3231.
