Amanda Blackburn murder suspect charged in second murder

Larry Taylor

A man charged in the Nov. 10 murder of 28-year-old Amanda Blackburn has now been charged in another robbery and murder.

New charges have been filed against Larry Jo Taylor Jr. in the robbery and shooting death of Rolando Gonzalez-Hernandez, who was found unresponsive beside his vehicle Nov. 4 in the 4500 block of Candletree Circle on the city's west side.

Gonzalez-Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy confirmed he was shot in the head. Court documents say Taylor set out to rob Hernandez while he was in his SUV smoking a cigarette. His girlfriend had just urged him to come inside for dinner around 8:00 pm that night. Officers were dispatched for the shooting at 8:31 p.m.

Taylor has been charged with murder, felony murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury.

The probable cause affidavit states that three witnesses provided statements to detectives that Taylor had told them he had robbed and shot someone at the apartment complex where Gonzalez was found. Taylor's cell phone allegedly made several calls and received several calls while in the area of the 4500 block of Candletree Circle between the hours of 4:10 and 8:56 p.m. that day.

Those witnesses said Taylor talked about doing a "lick" at the apartments, which is slang for an armed robbery. He reportedly complained to one witness about only getting $10 off of Hernandez.

The new murder charge against Taylor will make it more difficult for his defense attorney, who is already defending him in the Blackburn murder case.

Taylor and Jalen Watson currently face charges in the Nov. 10 murder of Amanda Blackburn at her home on Sunnyfield Court. The two are also accused of committing two additional burglaries on the morning of Nov. 10, along with a third suspect, Diano Gordon.

Prosecutors say Taylor and two other men found the Blackburn's front door unlocked during a burglary spree. Her husband returned home to find Amanda shot to death and their house ransacked.

The couple's unborn daughter did not survive. Their toddler son was home but was not hurt in the burglary.
