Reporter Steve Jefferson joined the 13News team in June 2002.
Steve's news experience includes reporting and anchoring at TV and Radio Stations in Ohio, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi and Oregon. He has countless proteges working across the country in the media who he has mentored from college to the work force.
Steve, affectionately known as “Scoop J”, is an Emmy Award Winning Reporter with numerous other awards including Edward R Murrow, Best Newscast from the Associated Press, and various community service awards. He's reported on major events including the Atlanta bombings, 100 Million Man March, the Georgia floods and Hurricanes George and Katrina.
Steve is from Dayton, Ohio, where he graduated from The Wright State University Journalism School. He is a twin and has more than a dozen other siblings living in various states but mostly Ohio. He is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Indianapolis Association of Black Journalists, 100 Black Men of Indianapolis, Center for Leadership Development and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Steve has served on several Board of Directors and volunteers with several community organizations including Grace Apostolic Church in Indy, The Indianapolis Press Club Foundation, Center for Leadership Development & Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
You may see him around town on one of his motorcycles. He also enjoys social media, exercising, traveling, roller skating, bike riding, running, pro sports and word games. Steve and his family reside in Indianapolis.
