Abandoned trailer park transformed into recreational greenspace

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Two years ago this month, city crews tore down an abandoned trailer park in Shelton Heights on the city's west side. It had become blighted and crime-ridden.

Neighbors vowed to replace Grandma Lloyd's with a park and greenspace and, now, thanks to help from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and others, they're well on their way.

Lilly volunteers planted flowers, while Shiel Sexton built a shelter as part of "Indy Do Day."

"Beyond words, I'm just so pleased," said Debbie Parrish, who lives in the neighborhood. "It's beyond anything I can say, miracles happen and dreams come true."

You can see they also have a walking path.

Still to come, a butterfly garden, picnic areas and a playscape.

Neighbors say the the park has already been a catalyst to bring the neighborhood together.
