80-year sentence handed down in 2016 murder

Jessica Whitehouse was found murdered in her home in November.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — An Indianapolis man will spend 80 years in prison for his conviction in a November 2016 homicide.

Lawon Browning was sentenced Wednesday. A jury found him guilty in July.

Jessica Whitehouse, 30, was shot and killed in early November 2016 inside her home in the 4300 block of North Norwaldo Avenue, a neighborhood just north of the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Her boyfriend found her, but police didn't immediately find the killer.

For more than a year, Jessie's family had been hanging flyers and raising reward money to solve the case.

Investigators used DNA from under the victim's fingernails and cell phone records to track down Browning nearly two years after the killing.
