5 things you need to know for Wednesday, August 8

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Good morning. Here are five things you need to know today:

1) An autopsy is scheduled this morning in an officer-involved shooting in Monroe County. Sheriff Brad Swain says two of his deputies were serving a warrant when they shot a man who came outside with a gun. The two deputies are on paid leave during the investigation. Sheriff Swain said he plans to release the body cam video from the shooting.

2) Wayne Township Fire Dept. Capt. Mike Pruitt is heading west to help teams battling growing wildfires. He tweeted last night that he's on his way to Oregon to support crews trying to put out two different fires there.

3) Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is defending his company's decision not to ban right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his "Infowars" show. Dorsey's remarks, in a series of tweets late Tuesday, came after other tech companies including Facebook, Apple and Spotify removed Jones' content for violating hate speech policies. Dorsey said Twitter didn't suspend Jones or "Infowars" because "he hasn't violated our rules. We'll enforce if he does." He added he wants Twitter to avoid taking "one-off actions to make us feel good in the short term."

4) There's no all-day rain today, and the morning rush hour will be more manageable than yesterday. Chuck Lofton says you should still look out for scattered thunderstorms later today because we're dealing with a genuine tropical air mass. That means anything on radar today could produce some pretty heavy downpours. Humid air hangs around the rest of the week and keeps a daily a chance for downpours and storms.

5) Speedway is more than a racing town, and they're ready to prove it with the new "Savor Speedway" starting today. The nearly two-week long event gives visitors a chance to check out some of the community's hot spots when it's not crowded with hundreds of thousands of race fans. More than a dozen eateries and businesses will have specials for customers who want to check out the city when it's not the month of May. Check out the list of restaurants offering a special menu with discounted meals.
