LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WTHR) - The discovery of five abandoned puppies is stirring up outrage around Logansport.

The county's humane society said two city employees found the puppies abandoned in the woods behind the shelter.

The mother of the pups hasn't been located.

Animal abandonment is a crime in Indiana. The humane society is urging people to safely drop off unwanted pets instead of leaving them outside to fend for themselves.

The shelter says the puppies are not yet ready for adoption but appear to be in good health.
