4th flu death reported in Indiana; down from 50 last year

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The Indiana Department of Health confirmed a fourth death from influenza Friday.

They didn't release the patient's name or what county he or she lived in, but we know the patient was 65 years of age or older.

At this same point last year, Indiana had 50 flu-related deaths.

Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the entire country is experiencing a much milder flu season this year so far. It's too early to say it will stay that way, but most of the patients who have been recorded had a strain that leads to fewer hospitalizations and deaths compared to the kind of flu that dominated last year.
