GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - Police in Grant County are investigating the drowning of a 2-year-old girl Wednesday night.

Police say the girl was playing inside and outside while her grandmother washed dishes and cleaned the house. Police say at some point the grandmother could not find the child and began searching.

The grandmother found the 2-year-old alone in an above ground pool.

A Indiana State Police trooper and Department of Natural Resources officer were near the residence in the 2000 block of East Bradford Pike and assisted with CPR.

Medics transported the child to Marion General Hospital where the girl regained a pulse. The child was then flown to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis where she later died.

Police have not released the name of the child, pending extended family notification.
