2 shot, 1 critically injured in east side shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Metro police are investigating after a man and woman were shot on the city's east side early Thursday.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on North Linwood Avenue, between East Washington Street and East New York Street.

Police say the 29-year-old male victim was shot while sitting in a car and the 37-year-old female was shot outside the vehicle while she was talking to him. The male victim was taken to Eskenazi critically injured, but is expected to survive and recover.

According to IMPD spokesman Officer Jim Gillespie, the female victim also walked up to detectives at the scene and showed them her gunshot wounds. They were minor and she was treated by paramedics at the scene and released.

No suspect description has been released at this time, and police believe this was an isolated incident.

Police are looking for an SUV involved in the shooting. Witnesses say it was either red or gray.
