2 arrested in Columbus on drugs, weapons charges

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WTHR) — Police arrested two people in Columbus after a multi-agency narcotics investigation.

Police pulled over a vehicle for a traffic stop in Columbus after it left a local hotel. Officers searched the vehicle and found 4 pounds of marijuana and a handgun.

Police detained the driver, 45-year-old Shawn Vanarsdale, and the passenger, 42-year-old Nicole Spatola.

State troopers later searched the room Vanarsdale had checked into at the hotel. They found 408 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested both Vanarsdale and Spatola. They were taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following charges:

  • Vanarsdale: Dealing in methamphetamine, dealing in marijuana, possession of a handgun without a permit, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Spatola: Possession of methamphetamine

Police are still investigating the possible sale of illegal drugs in Bartholomew County. More charges related to that could be forthcoming.
