12 heroin overdoses reported in Jennings County Tuesday evening

JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - Authorities in Jennings County are warning about a dangerous batch of heroin making its way around the county.

Officers responded to at least 12 overdoses Tuesday evening. Thanks to the use of Narcan, only one person died.Indiana State Police say the heroin was laced with fentanyl, a narcotic found in anesthesia that helps prevent pain after surgery.

Seymour Police have arrested 34-year-old Michael Purvis in connection to the overdoses. He faces several counts of dealing drugs.

More than 20 heroin overdoses were reported across Cincinnati Tuesday night, according to NBC affiliate WLWT. Most of them were reported between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Authorities are investigating any similarities in the cases.
