PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) - An Indiana State Police trooper stopped an 11-year-old boy during a joyride in his mom's stolen car.

A woman called IMPD to report her 11-year-old son had stolen her 2005 Pontiac Bonneville in Indianapolis.

Police were able to track the vehicle via OnStar on US 40 near County Road 300 East in Putnam County. The boy told police he just meant to drive around the block, but then decided to keep driving.

The joyride took the boy west on I-70 to Exit 37, where he headed north. He told police he was going to turn around and go home, but he ran out of gas.

Police discussed the case with the boy's family and prosecutors and decided no charges would be filed at this time.
