Scott Swan
Eyewitness News Anchor
Scott Swan is a multiple Emmy award winner. He anchors Central Indiana's #1 rated 12:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. newscasts of Channel 13 Eyewitness News on WTHR.
In 2011 Swan won five regional Emmys for his stories previewing the Vancouver Olympics, a story about an inner city boxing program and a story about a little tree embraced by an entire community.
In 2010 Swan won his second career National Headliner Award for a story about Heritage Christian School teacher Dan Stroup who sends handwritten birthday letters to each of his 2,500 students over a 30-year teaching career. The Press Club of Atlantic City honored "Sincerely, Mr. Stroup" with its First Place & Grand Award. The story also earned a regional Emmy.
In 2009 Swan captured four regional Emmys including "Best Anchor" and was honored for his China special reports prior to the Beijing Olympics. Swan was named "Best Reporter" by the Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association.
In 2008 Swan won the prestigious national Edward R. Murrow Award and a National Headliner Award for "Mission Complete." The inspiring story chronicled Greenfield Marine Josh Bleill who suffered the loss of both legs in an Iraq bomb explosion. Bleill promised to only return to Indiana once he could walk off an airplane. The story helped earn Swan "Best Reporter" honors from the Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association.
Swan has traveled the world during his career at WTHR. Swan led the station's coverage leading up to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Swan spent two weeks traveling throughout China gathering stories that aired during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He anchored the station's coverage of the 2006 Torino Olympics from Italy and the 2004 Athens Olympics from Greece. Swan anchored WTHR's coverage of Hurricane Katrina from Biloxi, Mississippi.
During his career, Swan worked at KTVX-TV in Salt Lake City, WISH-TV in Indianapolis, KITV-TV in Honolulu, KESQ-TV in Palm Springs, KHJ-TV in Los Angeles and Disneyland Broadcast Services.
Swan volunteers his time as emcee for a wide variety of organizations in Central Indiana and enjoys giving his testimony for church groups. Swan graduated with a broadcast journalism degree from Pepperdine University in 1985. He recently celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary with his high school sweetheart, Janae'. They have three children.
