IPS announces school closures, changes

Indianapolis - Around 1,700 students at Indianapolis Public Schools will be attending different schools next year under a plan announced by the district Wednesday.

Six elementary schools will be closed, including:

Edgar H. Evans School 11
Otis E. Brown School 20
Minnie Hartmann School 78
Parkview School 81
T.C. Steele School 98
Francis Bellamy School 102

Students at those schools will attend the following:

School 11 students will attend School 48.
School 20 students will attend Schools 19, 39 and 114. ESL students will attend Schools 19, 31 and 57.
School 78 will be divided among Schools 15, 39, 54 and 58.
School 81 students will be divided between Schools 54 and 99. ESL students will be divided among Schools 15, 51 and 83.
School 98 students will be divided between Schools 93 and 94. ESL students will attend Schools 83 and 105.
School 102 students will go School 103.

IPS is facing budget cuts, staff layoffs and a revamping of school boundaries as it deals with dwindling enrollment.

"No one wants to be displaced, but the evidence is overwhelming that we've lost a number of students and we have to do something," said IPS Superintendent Dr. Eugene White.
