Community benefit raises money for Johnson County teen

JOHNSON COUNTY -

A big showing of support Saturday for a Johnson County teen still struggling to recover from a serious crash nearly one year ago.

The wreck last November put three classmates from Whiteland Community High School in the hospital. Michael Williams suffered the worst injuries of the group. Despite coming out of a coma, he still needs treatment for severe brain damage.

That's why friends and family organized a benefit Saturday to raise money for his continued care. There was a silent auction and raffle, plus activities for kids -- all to help to Michael on his road to recovery.

"We have a lot of support from the community as well as family and friends," said Chelsea Osborne, a family friend. "A lot of sponsors from local companies have reached out. We've even had somebody donate a wheelchair lift for the van."

The funds raised Saturday will help buy a standing frame for Michael. They also hope to send him to a rehab center.
