"SNL" announcer Don Pardo dies at 96

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK - Legendary television announcer Don Pardo - the voice of "Saturday Night Live" - has died, his family reports.

Pardo's daughter, Paula, told CBS Radio her father died Monday at the age of 96.

Pardo missed two episodes of the SNL season in 2013 after breaking his hip, but returned in the fall to announce the cast in September.

He had already worked with NBC News for 31 years when Lorne Michaels hired him to announce for SNL in 1975. He announced baseball games, game shows - including "Jeopardy!" and was among the first to break the news of President John F. Kennedy's assassination to the country.
