'Gary's Ride' raises money for children of fallen officers

More than 150 people turned out Saturday to raise money for the children of fallen police officers.

The 8th Annual "Gary's Ride" began at the Indiana State Police training academy in Plainfield.

The bicycle ride is named for State Police Lt. Gary Dudley, who died after an accident.

"This is our way of honoring him and it's something that Gary would enjoy," said Carolyn Dudley, Lt. Dudley's widow. "He obviously was a very active cyclist and loved being on his bike and he was very close to the children of falling officers, so we've merged those two together to create the bike ride."

Three students who lost a parent in the line of duty received scholarships through the event.

To date, more than $150,000 in scholarship money has been raised through Gary's Ride.
