Police need your help finding a driver accused of a hit and run that injured a 17-year-old girl.

It happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday near the corner of Washington and Gladstone on the city's east side.

As the car sped away, gunfire erupted from a nearby pedestrian.

Police said they found the girl suffering from a leg fracture. She was taken to the hospital.

A witness told Eyewitness News a man was trying to pick up a girl and when she ignored him, he hit her with his car.

That's when the bystander fired shots.

The girl's mother, Charlotte Lard, has issued a plea.

"All I'm asking is that whoever hit my daughter if you would please bring yourself forward cuz you hurt her real bad. Thank you," she said.

The person who fired the shots also remains a mystery.

But Lard thanks whoever they are for protecting her children. She believes things could have gotten a lot worse if the driver hadn't been scared away.

"That don't make no sense. He ran up on the curb and almost killed...all three of them. And whoever the man is, whoever you are that was protecting my kids, thank you, I appreciate whoever you are that shot at the man," she said.

If you saw anything else or have any type of person or vehicle description that could help police, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
