TIPTON COUNTY - Loved ones over the weekend honored a Tipton County deputy killed in the line of duty.

Deputy Jacob Calvin died last weekend in a crash on the way to an accident scene. He was thrown from his cruiser when it went off the road and flipped.

Saturday, Calvin's family thanked the community for its support and shared stories about his passion for helping others. They gathered at the county courthouse where a memorial continues to grow.

Calvin's mother said she finds comfort in the police force her son leaves behind.

"I didn't just lose one son. I just gained 25," Penny Visser said. "These guys. I mean, every time I talk to Bratt, he says, 'I love you mom.' And I always know that they're there. They're always there for us."

"A lot of people can't say that they've died doing what they wanted to do. And it was his passion, and he was going to help somebody," added Dan Calvin, Jacob's father.

The celebration of Calvin's life continued Sunday with a public viewing at Carroll High School. Dozens were present for the viewing, which began with a somber flag ceremony.

Loved ones remembered him as a man passionate about his career on the force and helping others.

"Jake is just a very nice man," said Jan Garrison, a friend of Deputy Calvin. "He'd help anybody with anything....Very loving and caring person. He would do anything for you."

Funeral services are set for 11:00 Monday morning at Carroll High School in Flora.
