INDIANAPOLIS -

Visitors to the airport will soon get a reminder of a great Hoosier aviator.

Plans were unveiled Wednesday for a statue of Colonel Weir Cook to stand at the entrance of the Indianapolis International Airport. The statue captures the colonel, a World War I ace, who was the driving force behind the airport's creation.

"People of that generation made things that are enhanced today, that have improved life for everyone," said Maj. Gen. Bob Nester (Ret.), president of the memorial project. "And people like Weir Cook, with his vision, is the reason that all exists."

The project was funded with donations and should be completed by April 2015.
