Here are 5 things you need to know on this Thursday morning

Updated:

A SERENE SUMMER DAY AHEAD:

Temperatures will warm up into the mid 80s today. This afternoon, a breeze out of the north means we won't be dealing with oppressive humidity, but overall, it will be a nice day. Look for temperatures to drop into the 70s tonight for the Jimmy Buffett concert at Klipsch Music Center. We are tracking a return to higher heat and humidity and scattered afternoon storms chances this weekend. The weekend will not be a wash-out, but watch for a few spotty storms later on Saturday and again on Sunday afternoon/evening. Highs will be in the uppers 80s to near 90 degrees Friday through the weekend.

SAME-SEX MARRIAGE:

Long lines are expected today at County Clerk's offices across the state and especially in Marion County.  That's after a judge struck down the state's ban on gay marriage. More than 180 couples were married in Marion County alone yesterday, but the ruling is already facing opposition. Attorney General Greg Zoeller is appealing and is expected to request an emergency stay of the decision.

REDUCING CRIME IN INDY:

Some City County Councilors are proposing a new program aimed at reducing violence by moving police officers into rehabbed houses in high crime areas in Indianapolis. The idea of safe neighborhoods now is to provide rent-free homes to officers in blighted neighborhoods. The Democrats want to start with a pilot program in the Mapleton-Fall Creek area, just north of downtown Indianapolis. The initial program would include 5 houses and be paid for with $1 million from Rebuild Indy funds. The proposal will be introduced next month.

USA SOCCER PLAYS GERMANY TODAY:

Soccer mania is in full swing. Today at Noon, the Team USA battles Germany in what's expected to be a showdown in World Cup competition. After a dramatic win over Ghana and a draw with Portugal, the U.S. men's national team is hoping to move on to the next round. The Indy Eleven Soccer Team is hosting three watch parties today in Indianapolis. At the Claddagh Irish Pub on east 96th Street, at the Old National Centre on New Jersey Street and at the Elbow Room on North Pennsylvania. Be sure to get there early. These parties have filled to capacity long before kickoff in previous matches.

NBA DRAFT:

The NBA draft is tonight, but all of the excitement is missing for the Indiana Pacers. That's because the team traded away their first round pick last summer to pick up Luis Scola. Indiana's first pick won't come until late in the second round, but four players with Indiana connections could hear their names called. That includes 2012 "Mr. Basketball" Gary Harris, who played at Hamilton Southeastern and Michigan State.
