This year's Indy Backpack Attack is kicking off. The annual school supply drive got started Monday at the Indianapolis Zoo.

Businesses from around the city picked up donation bins to help the estimated 88 percent of IPS families who need help getting their kids the supplies they need to succeed in school.

"We are trying to help those families that can't afford those basic supplies, so that their student is ready on the first day and is successful," said Tiffany Dial, 2014 Backpack Attack co-chair.

Indy Backpack Attack began in 1999. Since then the program has delivered more than 3.5 million school-related items to Indianapolis students.

Teachers often dip into their own paychecks to help students with supplies.
