Colts' McAfee hosts party to raise money for military families

Updated:
Colts punter Pat McAfee donned a particularly patriotic outfit to support the children of our military Friday evening.

McAfee sported a red, white and blue vest as he hosted the "Red, White and Boomstick Cocktail Party" at Sullivan's Steakhouse Friday, raising money for scholarships for children of those serving in the military.

"Military's something that's so near and dear to my heart, because after you get a chance to meet a couple of these heroes, you really realize how small a football game is or how small things are," he said. "These guys are willing to give up their lives and when they go to serve, the family serves, too, they lose a dad or they lose a mom for an extended period of time."

Earlier this month, McAfee gave $35,000 in scholarships to college-bound children.

"It was just an interesting way for us to really help the families of military, by giving scholarships and hopefully promoting their future moreso than anything, because that's what they deserve," McAfee said.

Friday's event was the first in what McAfee hopes becomes an annual tradition.

"I hope for 10 more years we get to do this same event and I hope it's a lot of fun," he said.
