COLUMBUS, Ind. -

A Columbus family is on a mission to honor their son and bring awareness and hopefully a cure for the rare and devastating disease that took his life.

Lynn Whittington is organizing the first annual "Carnival for the Cure" in honor of her son Peyton this weekend in Columbus.

Peyton was diagnosed with DIPG, or Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a rare brain tumor that strikes the brain stem and renders nervous system function impossible. He was four when he was diagnosed and died a year later.

The carnival this weekend at Ceraland Park will raise awareness and money in hopes of finding a cure. The event runs from 1:00 to 5:00 pm and features games, prizes, live entertainment, silent auction, magician and a bouncy house.

All proceeds benefit the Peyton's Angels Indiana Chapter of The Cure Starts Now.
