Long-struggling Bicknell sees better days ahead

BICKNELL, Ind. -

A small Indiana city that had to cut spending, borrow money from its utilities and lay off employees is on the road to financial stability.

Bicknell has struggled with financial shortfalls since officials failed to properly adopt the budget in 2012. The situation was compounded when the city received less money than expected from the state in 2013.

The city was forced to operate on 2011 funding levels.

Mayor Jon Flickinger tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial that all of the careful planning has paid off. The city was able to meet its financial obligations between the December and June tax draws.

He predicts the city will be in good shape next year and that it will be able to tackle projects that have been delayed because of financial issues.
