KENNEBUNKPORT, Me. -

Former President George H.W. Bush spent his 90th birthday today skydiving.

The 41st president made his tandem parachute jump with a retired member of the Golden Knights Army parachute team near Kennebunkport, Maine.

Members of his family, including former President George W. Bush, gathered below to watch.

Even though the elder Bush suffers from a form of Parkinson's disease that has confined him to a wheelchair, he made good on a vow he made a few years ago that he would go skydiving on his 90th birthday.

The landing looked rough as he came in on his knees and slid across the grass. But moments later he said he felt fine as he was congratulated by his wife Barbara and son, sporting a big grin.

When asked what it was like, he said it was "cold up there."
