Nevada shooter made threats to BMV operator in January

INDIANAPOLIS -

A former resident of Indiana, who killed three people in Las Vegas with his wife, made threats to the BMV shortly after he moved.

"We're going to Vegas," Amanda Miller says on a YouTube video from last winter.

Miller and her husband, Jerad, moved to Nevada in January to start a new life. But Jerad had unfinished business with the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

From Las Vegas last January, Miller told a BMV operator in Indiana, "Apparently my license is suspended in Indiana and I don't know why."

He had failed to send the state proof of insurance after a traffic accident and after getting a traffic ticket.

"So because of the law change, I am just S.O.L.?" Miller asked.

"No, not at all," the clerk replied.

The clerk then tried to help Miller, who faces a $500 fine for driving with a suspended license.

"I'm really sick and tired of all the (expletive) rules and (expletive) regulations. Absolutely insane," Miller said.

At the end of the seven-and-a-half-minute recording, Miller says, "And if they come to arrest me for noncompliance or whatever, I'm just going to start shooting people."

Because of that call four months ago, Nevada police sent three anti-terrorism detectives to visit Miller.

Wednesday in Las Vegas, police said, "The male subject claimed that he used different terms than what the BMV had told us. But ultimately, at the end of the conversation, those three seasoned detectives did not determine there was a potential for an ongoing threat at that time."

Police have also changed their initial theory that Amanda Miller shot and killed her husband in the climactic shootout with officers in a Walmart store. Now, police say that was not the case.

They released security camera video from the store, which they say shows both Millers wanted by police. Several times, Amanda Miller seemed to point a gun at her husband as he lay a few feet away on his stomach. Then, twice she turns it on herself before pulling the trigger.
