Indiana Republicans have chosen state treasurer's office staffer Kelly Mitchell as their party's nominee for Indiana state treasurer.
Mitchell won the party's nomination Saturday after three rounds of balloting at the Republican Party's convention in Fort Wayne.
She won a surprising victory over Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold and financial adviser Don Bates. Mitchell has the backing of many women associated with the Lugar Series, a program that focuses on electing Republican women.
She'll now face off against Democrat Mike Boland in November's general election.
The candidates are seeking the office held by Treasurer Richard Mourdock, who is term-limited from seeking re-election.
