Man shot, killed in car on NE side identified

Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS - The man shot and killed on Friday night on the northeast side was identified Saturday by the Marion County Coroner's office as 48-year-old Louis Myers. He was shot multiple times according to the coroner.

Police found an Myers in a black car parked in an empty lot in the 4000 block of Meadows Drive just before 8:00 p.m. He was already dead when they arrived.

No word yet on a suspect description or possible motive. Detectives did confirm they brought out a ballistics K9 unit to help search for any weapons that may have been used.

Throughout the night, the Ten Point Coalition was on scene monitoring the situation but it stayed calm. The anti-crime, anti-violence activists just had a prayer breakfast and fundraiser earlier that day to raise money so they could continue their work walking the streets after crimes like this one and in high crime areas.

The city's murder rate is at a record pace - 12 more murders than at this point last year. This case would make that 13.

Anyone with information is asked to Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).  Callers may also text "INDYCS" plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES).
