TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -

An Indiana State University student has died after being pulled from an apartment complex pool in Terre Haute last weekend.

The Marion County coroner's office says 22-year-old Abhinay Nyalakonda died Wednesday at an Indianapolis hospital. The Tribune-Star reports he died from brain damage caused by drowning.

Terre Haute police say Nyalakonda was swimming at the apartment complex Saturday evening when he was spotted at the bottom of the pool. An off-duty police officer performed CPR on Nyalakonda before he was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to IU Health Methodist Hospital.

He was a graduate student studying computer science at Indiana State.
