Arsenal Tech shooting victim had restraining order against accused shooter

INDIANAPOLIS -

The man accused of shooting an Arsenal Tech student near school Tuesday reportedly stalked her beforehand.

William Alvies, 19, fired six shots at the victim as she was leaving school for lunch, according to court documents released Thursday. The 17-year-old was hit in the shoulder and is now recovering at home.

The victim broke up with Alvies months ago and had a restraining order against him after numerous threats, according to police. A neighbor heard the shots Tuesday and said they saw Alvies run away and throwing the gun. Based on that witnesses information, police said they knew exactly where to find the weapon.

Alvies turned himself in a short time later and reportedly admitted to police he fired the gun, but said he didn't intend to hurt the girl. He said he knew her class schedule and when she went to lunch so he waited for her in the parking lot.

The victim's family told Eyewitness News they're still deciding whether or not the high school senior will attend graduation.

Alvies is charged with attempted murder. He is set to appear in court Monday.
