WARM AND HUMID DAY:

More humid air arrives today. Another round of thunderstorms will develop by afternoon and will continue into the evening. An isolated strong or severe storm will be possible. Afternoon highs will climb into the low 80s.

NEW IMPD RECRUITS:

Mayor Greg Ballard will head-up the swearing-in ceremony for nearly 60 new recruits to the IMPD today. That ceremony will take place at the Indianapolis Urban League.

IMPD OFFICER INJURED:

An IMPD officer was hurt in some sort of accident at a state park. Officer Claire Hockman was injured somehow yesterday at Clifty Falls State Park in Jefferson County. Metro police are not saying how she was hurt, but they do say she suffered a broken arm and several other injuries and had to undergo a cat scan. No word on her condition this morning.

HIGHWAY SAFETY BARRIERS:

Contractors are starting to fit sections of two interstates in central and western Indiana with more than 50 miles of cable safety barriers intended to prevent deadly crashes. The fence-like cable barriers can prevent vehicles from crossing highway medians and colliding with oncoming traffic. Work will begin today to install 40 miles of cable barriers along Interstate 70 in Clay, Putnam, Morgan and Hendricks counties. Most of the work will be done overnight to minimize the impact on traffic.

IU BASEBALL MUST WIN:

It's do or die for the Indiana Hoosiers baseball team. IU lost to Stanford yesterday by a score of 10-7. That sets the two teams up for a winner-take-all game today for a trip to the College World Series in Omaha.
