INDIANAPOLIS -

Police and fire investigators have determined the cause of an explosion that damaged a west Indianapolis townhouse.

Firefighters say the May 15 explosion at Pangea Riverside Apartments "occurred due to an unintentional, accidental opening of a gas line inside the townhouse." The investigation showed that slow release of natural gas into the unit "over a period of time long enough to reach a point of saturation that caused an explosion."

Two occupants of the townhome were seriously injured in the blast. Four others were also checked for injuries at area hospitals.
