Huntington University set to welcome disabled students

Updated:
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -

Six intellectually disabled Indiana high school students will join the campus of Huntington University this fall.

The university will welcome students from Huntington North High School to the campus south of Fort Wayne.

Huntington is working with Indiana University's Institute for Disability and Community and its Center on Community Living and Careers to create work and academic experiences for students with intellectual disabilities before they make the transition to life after high school.

The students will spend eight months on campus supported by special services staff from the Huntington County school district and mentors from the university.

The school district's special services department is working to identify candidates for the program, who are generally in their final year of high school.
