Skydiver dies in Franklin after parachute malfunction

Updated:
FRANKLIN, Ind. - A skydiver died Sunday in Franklin when his parachute was somehow impeded during a maneuver.

Johnson County deputies were called to the Franklin Flying Field at 3477 South 200 East and found 50-year-old Donald Wayne Hauke of Greenfield unconscious with witnesses performing CPR on him. Emergency personnel took over rescue attempts and Lifeline Helicopter was called to the scene but he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses said Hauke's parachute did deploy. They told investigators he was around 100 feet off the ground when he performed a maneuver and his parachute "did not recover" and he landed hard on the ground.

They immediately ran over and tried to help, but weren't able to save his life.
